2007 winners

The national winners of Enterprising Britain 2007 were announced at an awards dinner on 27 September at Lloyds of London. The competition is a nationwide search to find the most enterprising place in the UK - the city, town, place or area in the country that is best improving economic prospects and encouraging enterprise.


National winner

James Capper of North Staffordshire Regeneration ZoneThe overall winner of Enterprising Britain 2007 was North Staffordshire Regeneration Zone Ltd – the West Midlands winner, nominated by Advantage West Midlands.

Runner-up

The runner-up was The Paper Trail – the East of England regional Winner, nominated by the East of England Development Agency.

The national winner and national runner-up have been entered into the European Enterprise Awards to be held in December 2007 in Porto, Portugal.

Highly commended

Highly commended by the national judging panel were Croydon Enterprise – the London winner, nominated by the London Development Agency, and Irvinestown Trustee Enterprise Company Ltd – the Northern Ireland winner, nominated by Invest Northern Ireland.

Business Breaks for Young People, an innovative community based enterprise programme run by Nottingham Business Venture, nominated by the East Midlands Development Agency.

The Paper TrailEast of England

The Paper Trail, Apsley, a self-financing education, business and heritage centre, nominated by East of England Development Agency. The Paper Trail was runner-up in the national finals of Enterprising Britain 2007.

Croydon EnterpriseLondon

Croydon Enterprise, which provides support to budding entrepreneurs in Croydon, nominated by the London Development Agency. Croydon Enterprise was highly commended in the national finals of Enterprising Britain 2007.

Bishop Auckland Town Centre ForumNorth East of England

Bishop Auckland Town Centre Forum, which has boosted the town’s economy through a successful events programme, nominated by One NorthEast.

People Encouraging Enterprise in RossdaleNorth West of England

People Encouraging Enterprise in Rossendale, an Enterprise Facilitation project, nominated by North West Regional Development Agency.

Irvinestown Trustee Enterprise CompanyNorthern Ireland

Irvinestown Trustee Enterprise Company (ITEC), a non-profit company, nominated by Invest Northern Ireland. ITEC was highly commended in the national finals of Enterprising Britain 2007.

Edinburgh Science TriangleScotland

Edinburgh Science Triangle, a collective of seven of the Lothians' leading science and technology parks, nominated by Scottish Enterprise and Highland &Islands Enterprise.

Slough Creative Academy

South East of England

The Slough Creative Academy, which addresses skills gaps by training local people in the creative industries, nominated by the South East England Development Agency.

Knowle West Media CentreSouth West of England

Knowle West Media Centre, which works with young people to unlock their creative entrepreneurial potential, nominated by the South West Regional Development Agency.

Galeri Caernarfon CyfWales

Galeri Caernarfon Cyf, an innovative arts centre and community enterprise, nominated by the Welsh Assembly Government.
